Tracey MacKenzie
Tracey joined NSAC in 1990, as a Horticultural Technician and through hard work and study has advanced his career to his present position as Assistant Professor with the Department of Plant, Food and Environmental Sciences. He has made significant contributions to the Landscape Horticulture discipline for over two decades. Hundreds of students have been inspired and trained by Tracey over these years. Many of them now hold significant positions as entrepreneurs, landscape architects, and horticulturists with impact both regionally and nationally.
Tracey has contributed his creativity and innovation to developing a range of courses and constantly updates his curriculum to meet the industry certification standards. Tracey has consistently received “excellence” in teaching as seen from the student SRIs. His passion for teaching combined with his industry involvement brings real-world issues and solutions to the classroom.
Tracey has always taken an active role in new programme introduction, engaging industries and presenting the programmes to our stakeholders. These initiatives go beyond the regular roles of a faculty member; and he gives his time as needed to make things happen. As the Chair of the Academic Programme for the PFES department, Tracey has contributed significantly to the development of curriculum for the new Bachelor of Technology Landscape Architecture programme and is an ardent advocate and voice of this programme. Tracey strongly supports the 3+1 program with the Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University and now offers several courses to FAFU through innovative blended learning courses. All these are done innovatively and passionately.
Tracey has committed his professional life, teaching and learning to Landscape Horticulture and Architecture. He is well respected by students, colleagues, industry and international partners.
